Works-For-Me-Wednesday--Baby Sling

When I became pregnant with Cinderella, I researched many different types of parenting. The one that resonated the most with me was attachment parenting.

So, we bought a baby sling.

Let me tell you, it was the BEST purchase we made for our little princess!

They come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, but this is the one we purchased, just in a different fabric. It's a SlingEZee from Parenting Concepts, though we got ours cheaper in a store.

Baby slings are great for getting fussy babies to calm down/sleep. They're perfect for going shopping. They work wonders for getting the vacuuming done.

My husband even enjoys wearing it.

And both my girls absolutely love(d) being carried around by Daddy.

You can wear infants in front facing you; you can wear them facing forward, once they can hold their heads steady. You can wear toddlers on your hip and even swing them behind you while you cook or clean.

This is one of the greatest baby innovations, ever!

Why don't more western cultures embrace this? It's been used for centuries in every other part of the world.

Why do we think these are weird?

Personally, I think they're great.

How about you?

  1. I LOVE MY SLING!!!! I 'discovered' the sling when I was pg with my third...what did I do without it?? However, they were so expensive, that I found a way to make it myself. Now I make them for other moms...I have sold 7 this month!!
If any of your readers are interested, go to my blog and leave me a comment...my slings usually run around $30...depending on what kind of fabric you want.

  2. $30? Wow! That is cheap!

Hey ladies: check out Andie's slings. You probably won't find one cheaper in the stores.

  3. I love my adjustable pouches from Kangaroo Korner - I have one in fleece and one in mesh (for summer). I wear them all the time, and get lots of positive comments and questions from other parents (and random people on the street).

  4. I have been researching slings and I am so glad to hear a personal recomendation for one! I have a 12 month old little boy (who I NEED a sling to haul him around!) and I'm pregnant with #2 who is due to arrive in Feb. I'm thinking that a sling is going to be a MUST for this next one...I love the trendy, cute fabric too!! THANKS!!

  5. I didn't practice attachment parenting but I still love my sling. It's WAY better than a baby carrier. Both my kids slept so well in them as babies whenever we went out.

  7. Momma 2 Beans, we actually only chose this sling because it was the only option available to us in town. I didn't even thing about ordering one, but I'm glad I didn't. It was nice being able to try it on and the sales lady in the baby boutique helped us a lot (she would sling her little girl while running the store). There are so many options now. Good luck finding one!

    Aren't these things wonderful?

  10. I NEVER saw anyone with these when I had babies. I think they are so cute, I wish they had been available back then!

The one you picture is very hip!

  11. I do volunteer work in a nursery one morning a week. I've found that the babies who are carried in slings are a lot more content than the others, as long as they're being held. It doesn't seem to matter to them very much who does the holding. Of course, the downside is, you can't put those little folks down in a swing or exersaucer or anything without them throwing a fit! But still, if it were my baby, I'd sling her around.
