I Don't Want to Blog!

I've (obviously) been ignoring this little corner of my life lately. I think I'm just going through a "phase" right now.

That, and I'm busy.

Always busy.

Though, who isn't?

Most of my day is spent entertaining my kids. And keeping all three of them alive, and in one piece, and un-squished, and fed, and happy, and polite, and...

and...and...and...

And there is no end in sight.

May 1st marks the beginning of another term at school for me. May 28th marks the end of preschool for Cinderella. After that comes summer break for Prince Charming, potty training for Sleeping Beauty, a trip to Texas, a visit to Bremerton, one to Seattle, shifting of bedrooms and belongings, and back-to-school shopping.

Always, always busy.

While I'm going through my "phase," I'll leave you with a little update:

Cinderella: officially registered for kindergarten.
Sleeping Beauty: officially sleeping in a big girl bed.
The Little Prince: sick with his first head cold.
Prince Charming: wondering where he's going to have a job next year (stupid funding cut!).
Me: 10 more pounds to go.

Thanks for sticking around! You guys are the best!

Britain Really Does Have Talent

I know these have been circulating around lately, but they are both well-worth watching.

Susan Boyle: gorgeous!

Stavros Flatley: hilarious!

Enjoy!

The Tattletale, or Why Being the Oldest Sucks Sometimes

Cinderella is a tattletale.

It's like she turned 5, and all of a sudden felt the need to report every.little.thing Sleeping Beauty does "wrong."

I can be standing right there, watching them play, and Cinderella will still feel the need to tell me every.little.thing Sleeping Beauty is doing "wrong."

It's obnoxious, to say the least.

"Is she in danger?" I ask. "Is she bleeding?" I inquire.

"No, but, Mom!" Cinderella replies. "Sleeping Beauty is..."

Grr!

Last night I asked Cinderella if she wants Sleeping Beauty to get in trouble. Is that why she's telling me every.little.thing Sleeping Beauty does wrong?

"No." Pause. "Well, yeah."

Prince Charming told me later that he and Cinderella had a talk about why Sleeping Beauty doesn't get in trouble as often as her big sister. Cinderella knows why; she understands. She just doesn't quite get it yet.

Being a big sister totally sucks sometimes!

I should know; I was the older sister.

It's not fair. The younger kids DO get away with things.

Which means, I should understand Cinderella's plight, right?

I should be able to empathize, console, explain.

Instead? Instead I just get really annoyed.

*deep breath* *deep breath*

I think I need to channel my childhood again before I go certifiably crazy.

And Cinderella? Well, she's only five; she'll learn.

I just hope she does so before Kindergarten starts in the fall. I really don't want my child to be the class tattletale.

WW--Carrots!

**********
For more WW, check out 5 Minutes for Mom and PMKU.

And We (Finally) Have a Winner!

I've been too sick to publish this until now. Please forgive me (again)!

Here are the answers to the tie-breaker:

I gave birth to all three of my children in the same hospital: TRUE; there is just the one hospital in my little town, and I never had any complications.

I had epsiotomies with all three of my children: FALSE; I had epsiotomies with Cinderella and the Little Prince, but Sleeping Beauty came so fast that I tore instead (TMI? Sorry!).

My mother and my mother-in-law were both present, in the room, at the births of all three of my children: TRUE; it wasn't necessarily supposed to be that way, but it was.

So, the winner (finally) is: Jennifer! Congrats!

This has been a lot of fun! Thanks for playing along, everyone!

WW--Looking Forward To (and Back At) Summer

These were taken three summers ago, when Cinderella was only 2.

The 70+ degrees we've been enjoying the last three days has really got me wishing this weather wasn't just a fluke.

Stick around, nice weather! We won't hurt you!

**********
For more WW, visit 5 Minutes for Mom or PMKU.

Liar! Liar!

I'm glad so many of you had fun with my game! Here are the answers revealed:

I had braces twice. TRUE; I had braces in third grade, then again in high school.

I've never had a cavity. FALSE; although, I never had a single cavity growing up, I've had a few since I got married.

I wore my retainer in college. TRUE; as embarrassing as this is, I actually wore my retainer in my freshman student ID picture. (What was I thinking?)
I have never been to Mexico. TRUE; I'd like to visit someday, maybe.

I won a trip to Disneyland. TRUE; my dad and I used to participate in the Dad and Me Fun Run at Kenmore Park. The first year we ran, my name was drawn for the grand prize.

I went to the Caribbean for my honeymoon. TRUE; St. John's, USVA.

{What a nincompoop I am! I just realized all three answers from travel are true! Whoops! I may be a grammar snob, but I'm not much one for editing, am I? Sorry! I'll just throw that section out of the game, shall I?}

I have never colored my hair. TRUE; I've never needed to, until recently. Now my natural blond needs a little oomph, but I just haven't done it yet.

I have never permed my hair. FALSE; oh, do I have some disaster stories to tell...

I have never plucked my eyebrows. TRUE; they're so blond, I've never needed to. That, and until recently I've always had bangs to cover them up.
I have taught English. TRUE; have I mentioned I'm a grammar snob?

I have taught music. FALSE; while I myself have played the piano since I was 6, I have never actually taught music.

I have taught science. TRUE; I was actually hired as a Physics teacher where I used to work.
I have taken singing lessons. FALSE; I love to sing, but I've never taken lessons.

I have taken piano lessons. TRUE; oh, boy, have I ever! From age 6 to age 18, with only one little break...

I have taken guitar lessons. TRUE; for one summer, my parents finally allowed me to take a break from the piano to take guitar lessons. That was it, and it never happened again.

Well, there you have it! Ginormous mistake aside, did you have fun finding out the answers? No? You just want to know the winner? Okay, okay. I understand. You've been waiting over a week for this. I'll get on with it.

And the winner is...

Holy Cow, people! Could you make this any more difficult for me? Four of you tied. FOUR!

So, we need a tie-breaker.

I've contacted the four ladies and let them know they're up for my prize. The first two of them who answer this one last question correctly will win. Okay? Here we go:

I gave birth to all three of my children in the same hospital.

I had epsiotomies with all three of my children.

My mother and my mother-in-law were both present, in the room, at the births of all three of my children.

Okay! Have fun! (again...)

(Such a nincompoop I am!)

Party Foul

The main reason I don't like parties in real life is the clean up. I love to entertain, cook the food, and play hostess.

I don't like dishes, or garbage, or having it all end.

That may explain the lateness of this post.

That and my cold from H-E-L-L. (Yes, my lung is still firmly in place, sadly.)

This is long overdue, and I'm very sorry, but I thought some the wonderful bloggers I met through the UBP deserved bloggy-love.

So, without further ado, I'd like give a few people a quick shout-out: Baba, Teresa, L Harris, Pam, Bookie Boo (love her blog title!), Colleen, Kati, HappyHippy Mom, Shannon, and Pamela. Check out their blogs and give them a little comment love, m'kay?

I also found these other two fabulous blogs: Vanilla Joy (if you like crafting, and giveaways) and Grace Violet (she makes crafting and sewing look SO EASY! I've actually been inspired by her to break out my sewing machine and use it for something other than mending.).

My greatest find, though, is my bloggy twin, Hillary. Not only do we share the same name (with the correct spelling), but we're also both blonds with glasses, we both scrapbook (though I'm sure she does so more than I do), and we both have babies about the same age. We're practically the same person! ;)

My party is officially over now. Clean up is almost done. Check back tomorrow for the answers and winner(s) to my party game.

The Cold from H-E-Double Hockey Sticks

This cold has totally got me down this week. Right now I think that if my body would just go ahead and let me cough up the lung it obviously doesn't want me to keep in my chest I'd feel a whole lot better.

But, regardless of how much I try to oblige, that stubborn lung just won't budge.

*sigh*

So, I know the UBP ended a week ago, and I know I had a party game running, but I just don't have the energy to deal with any of that right now. I'll have a wrap-up post up on Monday, and the answers/winner(s) to the party game up on Tuesday.

Thank you all for bearing with me.

Right now I'm going to go take a nap.
