Help!
We are having the hardest time naming this child.
Cinderella was named before we were even married (and even thinking or doing anything about conceiving a child, just so we clear up any thoughts going through your pretty little heads right now).
Sleeping Beauty was named within days of us finding out she was a girl.
This one? We don't even have a short list for this one.
Why is naming this boy so difficult? The girls were easy to name.
Here is a little insight into our dilemma:
*Neither one of us is crazy about having a "Junior," so this just isn't an option.
*Too many boy names are just too popular, or weird. We're not into weird.
*With Prince Charming being a teacher, there are simply too many names that are "taboo." You know, bad associations, and whatnot.
So, where does this leave us?
With an unnamed child and a mother frantic about finding a name for him.
So far, all I have is his blog name (the Little Prince), but a blog name doesn't really translate into real life very well.
So, again, I say, "HELP!!!"
Help us name our child!
Please suggest lots of names for us to consider. I promise I won't make any snide or negative remarks about anything you suggest. We've covered a wide range in the weeks since our ultrasound.

ReplyDeleteWe had a girl name all picked out... and then we had a boy!
First I went to one of the online baby names sites and just looked. There's one that ranks names for popularity so you can see if your name is common or uncommon.
But before that I had just found a name while browsing... only to discover a month later that it was the #1 boy name for the past 3 years. Ugh. Back to the drawing board!
Write down all the names that you think are interesting and then show them to your husband. We finally ended up with a simple yet not real common name with some personal meaning.

I had two girls and then a boy TOO!! we're a match made in heaven. Here are MY choices. (As a K teacher, I've heard 'em all...)

Okay, you KNOW I am the baby naming guru. Go type "perfect name" into the search engine on my blog for my naming guide. In the meantime, go to nymbler.com and type any name you do like into the box, and it will generate a bunch of names it thinks you will like. It's pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteMake sure to consult the list of social security admin's most popular baby names (just Google that).
Most important, remember that the name is YOUR choice. I'm not going to suggest any names, because I'd like names like George and David, and hate names like Hunter and Jaden. We all have different tastes. Finding the name is your quest and yours alone. When you let other people's opinions into it you open yourself up to confusion and criticism and may end up with a name you don't really love.

Oh, the names you discover you don't like when you're a teacher! We had similar difficulties here... there were just some names I wouldn't even consider.

We didn't finalize names for our twins until the night before I delivered them... our third we had named about two weeks after we found out he was a boy. (We found the short list of names we hadn't used from when naming the boys, luckily!)
Good luck... it's not always easy to decide what this little one's name is going to be. Whatever you name him, it will be given in love and that makes it the best name possible. :)
And if you ask my Big Boy B, he'd suggest Ricky. He's still badgering us about why we didn't use that one!
My favoite, Ian/Iain, whichever spelling you prefer.
ReplyDeleteI have an easier time with boy names! When we discovered The Bean was a girl, we really had to put some thought into her name. We're set if we ever have a boy though.
ReplyDeleteOk, I have to laugh. We had the easiest time naming our daughter but when it came to our son we were so stuck. We were driving to the hospital after my water broke and I was crying like no other. Hubs asked me why I was crying so hard and I was like, I can't have this baby today, I don't even have a name!

A lady down the street is naming her unborn son Dane. It's new and not weird and I have no bad associations with it :-) Nick on the other hand is ruined for life with me.
